Hayes Cricket Club News story

RIP Brian Fenn

19 May 2016

Very sad news received today of the passing of Brian Fenn.  For those of you who have memories of the club back in the seventy’s and eighty’s you would have known Brian as a very popular and hardworking member of the club.   Brian had a local business “Stylo’s” in Lansbury Drive and was frequently found at his 2nd home in the evenings and weekends.

An avid cricket lover his son’s Jason and Paul were valuable members of the club’s 1st XI.

Brian himself enjoyed playing the sport he loved and was regularly turning out for our 3rd and 4th XI’s with his unique ability to score runs predominantly to his favoured “leg-side”   A legendary ability that once saw a club match innings with all fielders to his left with the exception of the right arm over bowler.

Brian was an enthusiastic coach of our early colts set up, helping out with our first ever “Colts tour” to Wales.

Despite leaving the Hayes area to move North in the mid 80’s Brian always kept in touch with the club he loved and last year donated his book collection to the club in the hope that fellow lovers of the game could enjoy reading about the sport.

His funeral will be held in South Yorkshire on June 10th (More details to follow as they become available)

Brian will be laid to rest in his Hayes CC jumper and his wish is that his ashes be scattered at his spiritual home, a request we are honoured to accept.

Our thoughts and condolences to his daughters Beverly and Sarah, his sons Jason and Paul in addition to his grandchildren and other family members.

Rest in peace Brian and thanks for the happy memories from all at Hayes Cricket Club
